No one is a perfect parent but this probably shouldn't have happened. However it did and I am guessing something similar will happen again in my lifetime. I'm writing this story for the purpose of venting and to make you feel better if something similar ever happens to you. I just looked up stories of other moms doing the same thing and it made me feel better!
Joaquin fell off the bed today! I was playing with him on the bed when he spit up. I went to grab a towel and turned back around and there he was on the edge! I knew I couldn't grab him in time but I jumped over there as fast as I could and got him with one hand to soften his fall (not enough to prevent it). He was terrified and so was I but no bumps or scratches...so I thought...now his eye is puffy and I'm hoping doesn't turn into a black eye. He must have hit the end table. Poor baby! Can you even believe this?! However besides some eye puffiness he is his same self and bounced back fairly quickly after the fall. No pun intended on the word bounce, he did NOT bounce!
Not sure why I'm choosing to blog this. It's for people with similar stories to make me feel better, not for people who think I'm a bad mom because I already know that's not true. I remember my mom telling me how my brother jumped off the changing table once. I bet that was a similar experience of fear! So...what are your stories? Please tell me you have one...thanks for your support!
Oh my! I sure hope Joaquin is feeling much better now.
ReplyDeleteMy son once fell out of his crib. He was about Joaquin's age too. Maybe slightly older because he was just starting to pull himself up to stand in his crib. It was the kind of crib that you lock in place and then unlock to push down the top railing. I was in the kitchen next to his/our bedroom and I heard a clang and a thump. He somehow managed to unlock it while he was standing up and then fell right out of it when the railing came down! There was a few seconds after he hit the floor where he did not cry as I was running into the room. I think he was as shocked as I was! As soon as he saw me he started whaling. He did not look injured, but all the same I took him to the doc to make sure he was not hurt in any way. It was all extremely upsetting. Luckily more for me than him.
Thanks Auntie Joan! I can only imagine the fear especially when Benny didn't cry! Thank goodness he was ok too. Joaquin's eye is already less pink today so luckily he's just fine. And luckily someone was over at the house with me when it happened to confirm he was looking good and he didn't need the doctor. Too bad you're not on facebook because everyone comments on my blog there and then you could read all the other stories but not many people write on the actual blog like you. I wish they did! And I hope you had a good birthday yesterday!
DeleteAw that is scary! Thomas hasn't fallen yet but today I was giving him Vit. D through a dropper and he wasn't swallowing... all the sudden he was choking and struggling to breath :( I felt so bad... but he was fine after I patted his back and did the football hold. Scared me! Trust me I think every parent accidentally causes pain, it's so sad though!!
